Job Summary
Senior / Principal Mechanical Engineer responsible for leading mechanical design delivery (building services) from concept to construction support across multidisciplinary projects in Exeter. Develop client requirements, manage stakeholder briefings, prepare and review mechanical specifications and equipment schedules, perform heating/cooling/ventilation calculations using IES/Hevacomp, and enable high-quality BIM delivery with Revit. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and the Global Technology Centre to improve design quality, represent the company in client/contractor/design-team meetings, conduct site surveys, manage deliverables and milestones, contribute to budget awareness, coordinate with other disciplines for integrated solutions, and mentor junior engineers while supporting team growth and bid/win activities. Requirements include a related degree, Chartered Engineer status or progress toward chartership, hands-on mechanical design experience in consultancy or contractor environments, strong knowledge of building services systems, proficiency with IES/Hevacomp/NBS/Revit, BIM coordination, leadership capability, commercial awareness, stakeholder engagement, and mentoring experience. Desirable: CIBSE Low Carbon Consultant (LCC) accreditation.
Required Qualifications
- Degree in Building Services Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
- Chartered Engineer status (CIBSE, IMechE) or working towards chartership
- Experience in mechanical design within a consultancy or contractor design environment
- Strong technical knowledge of building services systems and relevant standards
- Experience using IES, Hevacomp, NBS and Revit
- Understanding of BIM and coordinated design workflows
- Ability to lead packages of work and take ownership of project deliverables
- Good commercial awareness including budgets and constraints
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Proactive and self-motivated with ability to work independently
- Experience mentoring or supporting development of others
