Job Summary
Senior/Principal Hydraulic Engineer role leading a hydraulics design team within AtkinsRéalis D&AT in the UK. Responsibilities include coordinating or managing a team of hydraulic engineers for multi-disciplinary projects, producing and reviewing design deliverables (hydraulic calculations, reports, hydraulic profile drawings, surge models), providing technical input to complex projects, managing time and budgets to milestones, mentoring less experienced colleagues, supporting bid proposals, and collaborating with clients and internal teams. Requires a degree in Civil/Mechanical/Process Engineering (or equivalent), Chartered/Incorporated status, proven leadership in hydraulic design delivery, knowledge of water/wastewater treatment, pipelines, surge analysis, familiarity with industry codes (WIMES, S07) and software (HADES, VARISIM, WANDA), and ability to work independently with strong communication skills in a multi-disciplinary UK context. The role offers hybrid working with offices in Bristol, Birmingham, and Swansea.
Required Qualifications
- A degree in Civil, Mechanical or Process Engineering or equivalent
- Chartered or Incorporated Civil, Mechanical, or Process Engineer
- Proven experience coordinating or managing a hydraulic engineering design delivery team in a design consultancy
- Strong knowledge of hydraulic design of water/wastewater treatment works, transmission and distribution pipelines, sewage rising mains, and surge analysis
- Experience with design codes and standards and industry best practices (e.g., WIMES, United Utilities S07, HR Wallingford reports)
- Ability to work independently with minimal technical guidance
- Proficiency with analytical software/tools (HADES, VARISIM, WANDA)
- Experience in the Water market and delivering multi-disciplinary design projects
- Strong communication skills and collaborative/teamwork mindset
