Senior/Principal/Associate Ornithologist

Job Summary
Manage high-quality bids and tenders for ornithological services across renewable energy, power, and transport sectors. Lead ornithological project delivery from conception through survey scoping, statutory liaison, and final assessment, acting as the primary verifier to ensure technical standards. Author and review EIA chapters and HRA deliverables while planning, scheduling, and organizing bird survey phases to meet program and budget requirements. Conduct field surveys as needed and deliver consultancy to internal and external clients. Mentor junior staff and develop robust solutions for complex ecological issues in grassland, woodland, moorland, wetland, and coastal habitats.
Required Qualifications
- Proven track record of supporting the planning and delivery of ornithology projects in the UK or Ireland
- Well-developed understanding of UK or Irish wildlife conservation, especially in relation to the legal and policy framework protecting birds
- Membership of an appropriate professional institution and evidence of working towards Chartership (such as CIEEM or related.)
- Commitment to innovation and continuing professional development
- Excellent field skills in at least one specialist area of ornithology
- A proactive approach to Health and Safety
- All newly hired employees are required to attend an in-person Day 1 onboarding at an AECOM office location as a condition of employment
