Job Summary
Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, recondition, and maintain generators, electrical systems, engines, and their components in a shop environment. Identify root cause failures using electronic tools, schematics, and troubleshooting methods while maintaining client relations and supporting corporate marketing objectives. Prepare service reports, plan and control repair job costs, and own personal tools. Provide on-the-job training to technicians and helpers, make warranty recommendations, and communicate job progress to clients, associates, and management. Work safely, adhere to all policies, and perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Ability to speak, read, write, and comprehend English
- Keep safety as a priority in the work environment
- Ability to successfully complete a skills assessment (eTRAIN test)
- Valid driver's license
- Excellent client service skills
- Own and maintain required personal tools
- High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
- Minimum of 6 months related experience
- Must be able to communicate (speak, read, comprehend, write) in English
- Must have acceptable attendance to meet all company standards and requirements
- Must be able to operate a forklift with appropriate certification(s)
- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 60 pounds
- Specific vision abilities required: close, distance, and peripheral vision
- Appropriate manner, conduct, and grooming adhere to company policy
- Ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively
- Knowledge of CAT machine components and systems
- Basic computer and internet knowledge required
- Knowledge in operating scanning/diagnostic tools
- Knowledge and skills to operate and understand diagnostic equipment including computerized instrumentation
- Must be able to identify and evaluate root cause failures through the use of electronic tools, schematics and other trouble shooting methods
- Be able to demonstrate proper communication methods in order to effectively explain equipment conditions, machine status and recommendations, to clients, associates and management
- Maintain company equipment – keep in good clean orderly condition
- Work safely at all times
- Adhere to all applicable safety policies
- Comply with all company policies, procedures, and standards
- Work overtime as needed
- Travel to remote locations as needed
- Work within and promote corporate values
- Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing, information, instructions, and explanations to associates, clients and management regarding vehicle/component/equipment conditions, problems, recommendations, and repair processes
- Knowledge in operating scanning/diagnostic tools
- Knowledge and skills to operate and understand diagnostic equipment including computerized instrumentation
- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 60 pounds
- Specific vision abilities required: close, distance, and peripheral vision
- May be required to operate a forklift with appropriate certification(s)
Desired Qualifications
- Caterpillar work experience
- 5+ years experience in power systems equipment repair
- Proficient in troubleshooting, diagnosing and repairing engines and Tier emission regeneration systems
