Job Summary
Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair power systems equipment including generators, switchgear, automatic transfer switches, and engines in field environments. Perform reconditioning and maintenance on components while maintaining company equipment in clean, orderly conditions. Prepare service reports, plan and control repair job costs, and provide on-the-job training to technicians as assigned. Communicate equipment conditions, problems, and recommendations to clients, associates, and management orally and in writing. Own and maintain required personal tools, adhere to all safety policies, and work in adverse weather conditions as needed. Travel to remote locations and accept out-of-town assignments requiring extended overnight stays. Make warranty recommendations and learn product procedures for Caterpillar and allied brands.
Required Qualifications
- Ability to speak, read, write, and comprehend English
- Keep safety as a priority in the work environment
- Ability to successfully complete a skills assessment (eTRAIN test)
- Valid driver's license
- Excellent client service skills
- Own and maintain required personal tools
- High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
- Current driver's license
- Minimum of 6 months related experience
- Completion of TRAIN test evaluation
- Must be able to communicate (speak, read, comprehend, write) in English
- Must have acceptable attendance to meet all company standards and requirements
- Ability to obtain and maintain CDL if required by state or federal law
- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, and peripheral vision
- May be required to operate a forklift with appropriate certification(s)
- Appropriate manner, conduct, and grooming adhere to company policy
- Ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively
- Ability to successfully complete a skills assessment (eTRAIN test)
Desired Qualifications
- Caterpillar work experience
- 5+ years experience in power systems equipment repair
- Skilled in identifying, operating, changing, and replacing control panels; capable of troubleshooting and diagnosing additional system repairs
- Proficient in troubleshooting, diagnosing and repairing engines and Tier emission regeneration systems
- Able to perform basic standalone generator start-ups and basic switch start-ups at client sites
- Advanced knowledge of switchgear, and transfer switches and how systems affect each other
- EGSA training or equivalent
