Job Summary
Direct and execute electrical power studies for mission critical data center projects, including short circuit, coordination, arc flash, and Neher-McGrath thermal ampacity analyses. Coordinate with design leads, contractors, and equipment manufacturers to collect data for system modeling, while reviewing client standards and construction codes to ensure compliance. Utilize specialized tools like SKM, ETAP, and Reliasoft BlockSim to complete deliverables, managing multiple tasks and meeting strict project deadlines. Lead a small team of junior engineers, mentor staff to build internal expertise, and develop design standards. Travel less than 5% to project sites as required.
Required Qualifications
- 4-year degree in electrical engineering or architectural engineering with an electrical focus
- Minimum 8 years of experience in facility electrical design
- Experience using SKM to complete power system studies
- Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and with clients
- Ability to meet scheduled project deadlines
- Ability to travel when required to project sites
- Ability to clearly communicate with others in both written and spoken forms
- Ability to lead other engineers and designers
- Ability to coordinate the tasks of multiple teams
- Ability to mentor and train other engineers and designers
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
Desired Qualifications
- 4-year degree in electrical engineering or architectural engineering with an electrical focus preferred
- 2-year degrees and EET degrees with work experience
- Experience in electrical power studies such as short circuit, coordination, and arc flash for larger industrial and commercial buildings (greater than 1000 buses)
- Experience in mission critical design (including multiple scenarios, alternate power paths, and complex topologies)
- Experience performing and reviewing Neher-McGrath underground thermal studies
- Experience working across the entire construction process, from schematic design through construction administration, including review of submittals and shop drawings, and field work such as existing condition surveys, site observations, and punch lists
- Experience leading small teams and interfacing with clients
- Experience using construction management tools such as Procore and Autodesk Construction Cloud
- Knowledge of controls and monitoring systems for mechanical and electrical systems
- Professional Engineer (PE) License
