Job Summary
Manage and lead a team of 3-4 reporters to conceive, assign, and edit pieces rooted in reporting and research, ranging from fast analysis to long-horizon features. Guide Vox's political coverage with a clear hand and vision, staying on top of the news to find fresh angles that lead to distinctive analytical journalism. Collaborate closely with senior editors across multiple platforms to deliver a rich political report, shape stories to align with editorial strategy, and elevate team work on audio, video, and social channels. Work with colleagues in politics and the executive editor to ensure the editorial approach connects to Vox's broader membership strategy. This role requires 5 years' experience editing and is based in Washington, D.C. or New York.
Required Qualifications
- 5 years' experience editing
- Strong leadership, management, communication, and editing skills
- Excellent news judgment
- Demonstrated ability to bring analysis and sharp angles to news stories
- Analytical rigor
- Ability to pressure-test arguments
- Ability to take opposing ones seriously
- Ability to confidently edit pieces that explain ideas and/or stake out intellectual claims
- Ability to edit pieces that embrace nuance and complicate narratives without sacrificing clarity

- Passion for Vox's mission of serving the audience and making complex concepts accessible through explanatory journalism
