Senior Platform Engineer

Job Summary
Lead end-to-end deployment of RedHat OpenShift and Kubernetes clusters on private hardware, building Infrastructure as Code pipelines to automate server provisioning, OS hardening, and application delivery. Serve as the escalation point for complex networking, storage, or container orchestration issues, optimizing Linux kernel parameters and network configurations for high-throughput, low-latency Public Safety applications. Implement security best practices including CIS hardening and SELinux for air-gapped environments, while providing technical guidance and conducting rigorous code reviews for the engineering team. Manage physical and virtual layers covering networking, storage, and compute to ensure the on-premise stack remains automated, secure, and highly available.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of professional experience in Systems Engineering, Platform Engineering, or Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) with a heavy focus on on-premise environments
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience)
- Proven track record of deploying and maintaining production-grade Kubernetes or RedHat OpenShift clusters on bare-metal or virtualized private hardware
- Strong command of Linux internals (storage, networking, process management) and the ability to debug issues across the entire stack
- Hands-on experience with Data Center Networking fundamentals, including switching/routing, load balancing, and firewall rule implementation
- Experience replacing manual operational tasks with automated workflows using Python, Ansible, or similar tools
- Ability to work in an agile environment and handle the high-pressure demands of maintaining mission-critical Public Safety systems
- Strong communication skills with the ability to document complex technical architectures and mentor junior team members
- Expert-level RedHat OpenShift (OCP) & Kubernetes
- Advanced Linux Administration (RHEL preferred)
- L3/L4 Networking, BGP, Load Balancing (NGINX/HAProxy)
- Ansible, Python, and Shell scripting
- Git & GitOps (ArgoCD or Flux)
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs
Desired Qualifications
- Software Defined Storage (Ceph, Rook, or ODF)
- VMware vSphere or KVM management
- Prometheus, Grafana, and ELK stack
- CKA (Certified Kubernetes Administrator) or RHCE
- Experience with CIS Hardening and STIG compliance in air-gapped environments
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent with 3+ years of professional experience in Systems Engineering, Platform Engineering, or Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) with a heavy focus on on-premise environments
