Job Summary
Conduct regional and local transport planning leadership by collaborating with local government partners, regional councils, and territorial authorities to influence planning outcomes and investment decisions. Provide strategic planning advice, lead the development of planning deliverables, and ensure transport system challenges are translated into practical outcomes for Regional Land Transport Plans, Regional Public Transport Plans, and the National Land Transport Programme. Build strong relationships across the sector to align planning intent with local, regional, and national priorities while navigating multi-party processes. This role supports initiatives seeking National Land Transport Fund investment within the NZ Transport Agency's System Leadership Group.
Required Qualifications
- Experience in transport planning, spatial planning, land use and transport integration, or a related planning discipline
- Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with local government, regional councils and territorial authorities to influence planning outcomes
- Experience developing high quality, evidence-based planning advice, strategies and planning deliverables
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to translate data, insights and evidence into practical recommendations
- Proven ability to build trusted relationships and influence diverse stakeholders across complex environments
- Experience navigating multi-party planning processes and balancing local, regional and national perspectives
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to provide clear and credible advice to senior decision makers
- Strong programme and priority management skills, with the ability to deliver quality outcomes in a dynamic environment
- An understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi obligations and experience working with Māori partners, iwi or Māori organisations, or a willingness to grow capability in this area
- A tertiary qualification in planning, transport planning, geography, public policy or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)
- A current driver's licence
Desired Qualifications
- You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori
- You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of Te Tiriti o Waitangi as it applies in the public sector
