Job Summary
Manage complex development review applications and long-range planning initiatives while overseeing zoning amendments and special planning projects. Provide professional planning recommendations and serve as a technical resource for Town staff, boards, commissions, applicants, and the public. Coordinate planning projects, foster cross-departmental collaboration, and communicate effectively with residents, elected officials, and staff. Prepare and evaluate policy recommendations to preserve the distinctive mountain character of the destination. Reporting to the Planning Manager, this role requires six to eight years of municipal planning experience and a Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning or a related field. The Town of Vail, Colorado offers a salary range of $86,726-$130,089 with benefits including comprehensive health coverage, 401(k) matching, and a generous paid time off package.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Land Use Planning, Urban Design, or a closely related field
- Six (6) to eight (8) years of progressively responsible planning experience, preferably in municipal government
- Thorough knowledge of planning principles, zoning regulations, land development, and public administration
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Desired Qualifications
- Master's degree in Planning or a related field
- AICP Certification
- Working knowledge of Colorado land use law
- GIS experience and familiarity with development review software
