Job Summary
Review development plans and applications for compliance with zoning, land development, and other applicable regulations. Administer tree protection ordinances, review removal requests, and track projects for mitigation measure compliance. Conduct occasional site inspections and assist in drafting amendments to the Zoning Code and Land Development Regulations. Compile demographic, economic, transportation, and environmental data to support planning studies and policy development. Serve as staff liaison to boards and commissions, assisting applicants, developers, and residents with zoning processes while participating in public outreach. Manage multiple development applications and deadlines, communicating effectively with elected officials, consultants, and the public. Requires a Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning or related field with five years of experience, a valid South Carolina driver's license, and salary ranging from $63,180 to $78,975.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Community Planning, Public Administration, Geography, Landscape Architecture, or a closely related field
- five (5) years of progressively responsible planning experience

- Build collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Read, interpret, and apply zoning ordinances, land development regulations, comprehensive plans, and related laws
- Analyze development proposals, technical reports, site plans, and planning data
- Exercise sound professional judgment when evaluating compliance and recommending solutions
- Prepare technical reports, staff recommendations, presentations, and correspondence
- Organize, prioritize, and manage multiple development applications, projects, and deadlines
- Communicate effectively with elected officials, advisory boards, developers, consultants, property owners, employees, and the public
- Conduct research, analyze demographic and land use information, and formulate recommendations
- Adapt to changing priorities, regulations, and project schedules
Desired Qualifications
- American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification
