Job Summary

Lead the design and layout of process and utility piping systems for Life Sciences facilities across the United States, independently managing efforts from conceptual design through construction documentation. Develop and revise P&IDs, general arrangement drawings, piping plans, and isometric drawings while coordinating with multidisciplinary teams on projects spanning various markets. Mentor junior designers, perform quality reviews of deliverables prior to issuance, and participate in design reviews and interdisciplinary coordination meetings. Estimate design effort, prioritize workload, and meet project schedules while ensuring adherence to company engineering and BIM standards. This role requires 10+ years of industrial piping experience, advanced proficiency in AutoCAD Plant 3D and Revit, and a minimum quarterly trip to the Atlanta-area office in addition to up to 25% regular travel.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Engineering Technology, Computer-Aided Drafting, Design Technology, or equivalent industry experience
  • 10+ years of relevant industrial experience in mechanical/piping drafting and design
  • Expertise in industrial piping design and drafting standards, preferably in Process Industrial and/or Life Sciences facilities
  • Experience designing complex process, utility, and facility piping systems
  • Advanced proficiency with 2D AutoCAD, AutoCAD Plant 3D, and Revit
  • Knowledge and application of piping supports, restraints, and coordination with structural engineering
  • Working knowledge of piping flexibility, thermal expansion, and stress analysis principles
  • Knowledge of manual valve selection, sizing, application, and installation requirements
  • Ability to develop and revise P&IDs, General Arrangement (GA) drawings, piping plans, equipment layouts, and isometric drawings
  • Experience designing piping systems associated with pumps, tanks, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, control valve stations, and inline instrumentation
  • Familiarity with piping specifications, construction bulk materials, equipment installation details, and applicable industry standards
  • Ability to create accurate mechanical and piping installation documents utilizing information from vendor equipment drawings and specifications
  • Ability to develop complete piping layouts from P&IDs, process flow diagrams, equipment arrangements, and vendor documentation
  • Knowledge and understanding of workflow and information exchange between Process, Mechanical, Structural, Electrical, Instrumentation, and Architectural disciplines
  • Knowledge and understanding of schedule constraints and deliverable requirements necessary for successful project execution
  • Ability to accurately estimate design effort, prioritize workload, and meet project schedules
  • Knowledge and application of company engineering, BIM, and CAD drafting standards
  • Experience leading piping design efforts from conceptual design through construction documentation
  • Experience leading, mentoring, and coordinating a team of piping designers on multidisciplinary projects
  • Experience participating in design reviews, constructability reviews, and interdisciplinary coordination meetings
  • Experience performing quality reviews of piping deliverables prior to issuance
  • Skilled in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present technical information in formal client and project meetings
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while mentoring junior designers and contributing to the continuous improvement of department standards and workflows
  • Up to 25% travel, increased travel to Peachtree Corners, GA headquarters (usually once per quarter) will be required for remote employees

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with Navisworks for model review, clash detection, and multidisciplinary coordination is preferred
  • Experience supporting Design-Build and EPC project delivery is preferred
  • Experience performing field walkdowns and verifying existing conditions is preferred
