Job Summary
Senior Photonics Scientist to guide, coordinate, and support technical milestones in integrated photonics for trapped-ion quantum computing; develop and demonstrate optical metrology testbeds for passive/active photonic materials and devices; lead design studies; manage schedules, budgets, and resources for complex R&D projects; analyze metrology data to inform system architecture and fabrication techniques; collaborate with photonics designers, engineers, physicists, fabrication partners; communicate results and risks to teams and leadership; requires Bachelor's degree and 8+ years in experimental freespace optics and/or photonics; U.S. person required due to security requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree minimum
- Minimum 8 years experience with experimental freespace optics and/or integrated photonics
- Due to Contractual requirements, must be a U.S. Person defined as, U.S. citizen permanent resident or green card holder, asylum or refugee status
- National security requirements: not a PRC national or Russian national unless U.S. citizen
- Bachelor’s degree in physics, engineering, or optics (preferred)
- Experience directing a technical project
- Experience leading a technical team
- Experience guiding a product from concept to delivery
- Experience collaborating across teams to drive a project to completion
- Experience working with project management to deliver technical results on time
- 4+ years experience with photonic integrated circuit testing
- 4+ years experience with optical metrology
- Experience with on-chip photonics, fiber-to-chip coupling, modulation techniques
- Exposure to nanophotonic design using FDTD/FEM/optical mode solver tools
- Exposure to micro- and nano-fabrication techniques
- 5+ years experience with scientific coding and data analysis
- Knowledge of trapped-ion quantum computers or other quantum computing architectures
- Strong written & oral communication skills
- Strong organizational and collaboration skills
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with remote colleagues
