Senior Payroll Specialist

Job Summary
Manage the outsourced payroll provider as the primary liaison between the business, employees, People Partner, Finance, and the vendor to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant delivery for Australian employees. Validate payroll inputs including new hires, terminations, salary changes, bonuses, leave, and superannuation while monitoring vendor service levels and addressing processing issues. Review payroll outputs, perform reconciliations and variance analysis, and ensure all statutory filings, returns, and regulatory reporting are submitted within deadlines. Support month-end and year-end activities, coordinate out-of-cycle payments, and act as the representative for government accounts regarding items such as Paid Parental Leave and garnishee orders. Resolve employee inquiries on payslips, taxation, and leave entitlements while partnering with HR, Finance, and business leaders to support workforce changes and organizational initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- 5 - 10 years of Australian payroll experience
- Must be flexible and willing to support payroll activities across other countries within the APAC region
- Strong understanding of: Australian payroll legislation
- Strong understanding of: Industrial relations (Fairwork Act, Modern Awards)
- Strong understanding of: Payroll tax requirements
- Strong understanding of: Superannuation regulations
- Strong understanding of: Single Touch Payroll (STP)
- Strong analytical and reconciliation skills
- Excellent stakeholder and vendor management capabilities
- High attention to detail and commitment to compliance
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs
Desired Qualifications
- Industrial relations (Fairwork Act, Modern Awards – Professional and Clerical Award an advantage)
- Payroll experience across multiple countries within the APAC region
