Job Summary
Manage and support end-to-end payroll operations in Japan, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with local regulations and company policies. Handle complex payroll cases, including adjustments, corrections, and statutory requirements, while collaborating with internal stakeholders and external vendors to resolve issues. Perform payroll reconciliations and validations to guarantee the accuracy of payroll data, tax calculations, and benefit deductions. Identify process improvement opportunities through automation and AI to enhance payroll efficiency, controls, and service quality. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including HR, Finance, IT, and global payroll units, to drive initiatives and support audits and compliance activities.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on Japan payroll experience
- Strong understanding of Japanese payroll practices, statutory requirements, income tax, social insurance, and year-end adjustment processes
- Ability to manage complex payroll cases, including payroll adjustments, corrections, retroactive changes, and exception handling
- Experience in payroll operations with a strong understanding of underlying payroll processes and logic, enabling effective review and validation of vendor outputs
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify root causes and propose practical solutions
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and take ownership of assigned payroll processes
- Effective communication skills in Japanese, with the ability to communicate clearly with employees, vendors, HR, Finance, and other stakeholders
- English communication skills sufficient to collaborate with global teams and stakeholders
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with payroll systems, time and attendance systems, or HR systems (e.g., Workday, SAP, or similar platforms)
- Experience working in a multinational company or outsourced payroll environment
- Experience supporting audits, compliance reviews, or payroll control activities
- Experience contributing to process improvement, system implementation, or payroll transformation initiatives
- Interest in or exposure to digitalization, automation, or AI-driven process improvements
- Business-level English proficiency
- AI proficiency in Co-pilot, AI assistant and any other applicable LLMs
