Job Summary

Apply casts, braces, and splints; assist in surgical procedures; and maintain traction sets under orthopedic surgeon direction. Train other employees on orthopedic device usage and provide guidance as a resource for expertise. Plan, implement, and monitor the budget for orthopedic supplies while collaborating with physicians and nurses on cost, utilization, and quality improvement activities. Identify critical indicators to evaluate orthopedic quality and prepare specific equipment for procedures. Requires 3-5 years of direct orthopedic patient care experience, BLS certification, and Orthopaedic Technologist Certification. Onsite work at The Brigham and Women's Hospital, Inc.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Basic Life Support [BLS Certification]
  • 3-5 years experience working directly in the care of orthopedic patients
  • Strong knowledge of standard orthopedic procedures and practices
  • Strong knowledge of orthopedic devices and appliances and proper fitting
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology pertaining to orthopedics use
  • Ability to communicate effectively when instructing patients in the use and care of orthopedic devices and appliances
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with practitioners and other health center support staff
  • Ability to be sensitive to and communicate effectively with diverse patients
