Senior or Senior II Engineer - Market Services (Remote Eligible)

Job Summary

Analyze Congestion Rent, GHG, MTU, and WRAP operations while coordinating with Transmission Service Providers to verify Transmission Service Reservations. Translate governing document language into application requirements, test system releases, and identify/correct data issues. Maintain internal and requirements documentation, provide analytical insights to stakeholder groups, and facilitate market design changes across Markets+. Prepare technical documentation, presentations, and analyses to support organizational credibility. Full-time role with moderate travel (10-15%), Monday through Friday schedule, and occasional extended hours as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree of Science in Engineering
  • Degree from a university that meets the requirements to sit for the Professional Engineering exam (in Arkansas, that is most typically a degree from an ABET accredited university or a graduate degree from a college that has an ABET accreditation)
  • Degree in a calculus-based engineering field
  • 5 years of relevant Engineering experience
  • Professional Engineer License may satisfy one year of experience requirement
  • 9 years of relevant Engineering experience
  • Professional Engineer License or Advanced degree in related field of study may satisfy one (1) year of experience requirement
  • Two (2) years of experience may satisfy both a Professional Engineer License and an Advanced degree in a related field
  • Competent with the administrative and communication tools for word processing, spread sheet development and time keeping, as a minimum
  • Strong knowledge of several power systems analysis tools applicable to power system steady state, dynamic, short circuit, or database management systems
  • Strong inter-personal and team work skills along with good written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent working skills with communication and data handling software such as Microsoft Office© Word, Excel, Access
  • Proficient at organizing and conducting technical and analytical studies
  • Knowledge of electric market concepts and ability to apply understanding in unique analysis
  • Ability to support diverse team members and manage complex analysis projects
  • Strong facilitation skills
  • Strong interpersonal and team-building skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Competent working skills with communication and data handling software such as Microsoft Office, Excel and Access
  • Demonstrate proficiency in business acumen and professional conduct
  • Demonstrate the ability to function with constantly changing and multiple priorities
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills
  • Understanding of and compliance with SPP Policies and Procedures
  • Ability to recognize and address strategic issues important to Market Design
  • Proficient at organizing and conducting complex technical and analytical studies
  • Skilled at analyzing complex issues and communicating results to diverse stakeholders
  • Moderate travel (10-15%)

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in power operations or market design in the Western Interconnection
  • Experience in reserving and scheduling transmission service
  • Advanced degree in economics, math or other related field of study
  • Experience in utility operations, RTO operations or energy trading
  • Experience with data manipulation and analysis of large data sets
  • Sound understanding of the SPP Open Access Transmission Tariff, FERC & NERC governing documents, SPP By-Laws, SPP Criteria and the SPP Committee structure
  • A Professional Engineer License
  • Advanced degree in related field of study
  • Electric Utility Industry experience
  • Proficient with most SPP power systems analysis tools with a solid command of several SPP tools and/or processes
  • Sound understanding of the SPP Open Access Transmission Tariff, FERC & NERC governing documents, SPP By-Laws, SPP Criteria and the SPP Committee structure
