Job Summary

Review design-stage risk management information and challenge assumptions to develop creative hazard-mitigation strategies. Gather required data to inform risk profiles, PCI, HSF, or BSA compliance plans while advising clients on their legal responsibilities under CDM regulations. Apply CDM principles to non-standard scenarios, scoping issues and delivering robust project strategies and plans. Compile compliance reports and registers, potentially supporting Building regs compliance as a Principal Designer using in-house processes. Deliver project deliverables in line with commercial proposals for time and cost. This role strengthens WSP's multidisciplinary teams across transportation, infrastructure, energy, and engineering sectors to improve design safety and proactively eliminate risks during all project stages.

Required Qualifications

  • strong working knowledge of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015
  • some knowledge and experience of the Principal Designer role in the Building Safety Act 2022
  • design and compliance experience within transportation, infrastructure, energy/utilities, mechanical and engineering, structures , or similar design‐led environments
  • passion for improving design safety and proactively identifying, eliminating, or mitigating risks during all stages of project development
  • proven track record as a Safety in Design or CDM professional
  • hands‐on design experience
  • strong practical knowledge of CDM 2015
  • experience of BSA 2022
  • genuine commitment to improving health and safety performance and compliance across construction projects
  • Experience within transportation, utilities, engineering, operations, risk management, or related disciplines
  • good understanding of design process and risk profiles
  • A degree (or equivalent) in safety, engineering, construction, transportation, or a related field
  • an equivalent technical qualification (BTEC, HNC/HND)
  • strong practical experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • the experience and confidence to speak in professional and client meetings
  • A commitment to continued professional development
  • NEBOSH Construction certification
  • membership of APS, IIRSM and/or IOSH
