Job Summary
Perform precise assembly of optical and opto-mechanical components using fixtures, hand tools, and test equipment. Align lenses, mirrors, and windows while monitoring parameters to meet specifications, and operate interferometers and profilers for centration testing. Execute detailed test procedures to verify product performance, troubleshoot failed assemblies, and inspect components under a microscope for defects. Maintain accurate records of production and test data while adhering to safety protocols in cleanroom environments. Collaborate with engineering teams on manufacturability feedback and new process development. This role requires proficiency in inspecting optical components per MIL-PRF-13830 and ISO 10110-7, including setting up transmission spheres and interpreting interferograms.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in a manufacturing or lab environment with optical, fiber optic, or semiconductor systems
- Excellent manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for working with small, delicate components
- Proficiency with precision hand tools and optical metrology equipment
- Basic understanding of optical principles, physics, mechanics, and electronics
- Strong computer skills for operating test equipment and documentation
- Proficiency in inspecting optical components per MIL-PRF-13830 and/or ISO 10110-7
- Ability to classify scratch and dig surface imperfections
- Proficiency in interferometry
- Ability to set up (select transmission sphere), measure surface form error and transmitted wavefront, and interpret interferograms
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work both independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively in a team environment
- Visual acuity sufficient for inspecting intricate parts under a microscope
- Capability to perform fine manipulation with hands and fingers
- Ability to sit, stand, kneel, and bend for extended periods
- Ability to lift and move up to 35 lbs
- Lawful access to ITAR/EAR controlled information
- US Citizenship or US Permanent Resident
