Job Summary
Senior Optical Systems Engineer responsible for developing and validating EO/IR sensor systems and laser payloads for space programs. Leads modeling/simulation of optical performance, unit- and system-level tests on ground and on-orbit, and manages interfaces between the optical payload, space vehicle team, and mission data processing. Requires a Bachelor's degree in engineering or physical sciences, 7+ years of optical engineering experience, space-to-space or space-to-ground laser communication experience, and the ability to obtain US government security clearance. Location: El Segundo, CA. FULL_TIME role; salary ranges from $121k to $260k annually depending on level; relocation assistance not negotiable. Security and export-control requirements apply.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in engineering or the physical sciences / computer science
- 7+ years industry experience in optical engineering
- Experience with space-to-space and/or space-to-ground laser communication
- Experience with performance/phenomenology/modeling of space-based EO sensors
- Ability to obtain a US Security Clearance (US Citizenship required)
- Post Start is required for security clearance eligibility
- Relocation: not a negotiable benefit for this position
Desired Qualifications
- 10+ industry experience working with satellite optical instrumentation, design, and/or operation
- Ability to train and mentor other members of the team
- On-orbit experience in the operation and performance validation of OCTs
- Active TS/SCI clearance (preferred)
- Experience with onboard and ground processing of optical data to extract mission-related information
- Experience with design, integration, qualification, and test of satellite optical hardware such as EO/IR payloads, star trackers, laser range finders, etc.

- US Citizenship required; ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance; compliance with export control requirements (ITAR)
