Senior Observability Architect

Job Summary
Develop and advance observability strategies, frameworks, and best practices across applications, platforms, and value streams. Define performance metrics and operational indicators that align with business outcomes, while establishing foundational standards and reference materials to improve consistency. Champion the development of observability strategy for individual teams within D&IT by collaborating with stakeholders to improve system reliability and operational awareness. Partner with product and platform teams to implement effective monitoring, logging, alerting, and telemetry solutions, supporting the evolution of capabilities through automation and emerging AI-driven practices. This office-based role in Calgary requires 8+ years of experience with tools like Datadog and Azure Monitor.
Required Qualifications
- Experience with observability and monitoring tools such as Datadog, Grafana, Azure Monitor, AWS CloudWatch, or similar platforms
- University degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field
- 8+ years of relevant experience
- Strong understanding of monitoring, logging, alerting, telemetry, and system performance concepts
- Experience supporting DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and automation initiatives
- Knowledge of cloud environments such as Azure and/or AWS
- This is an office-based role
- You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W
- Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday with occasional site visits
