Job Summary
Choose, order, and frame stories for daily newsletters, writing subject lines and headlines with wit and urgency. Edit copy to Daily Mail standards, react to breaking news to adjust send timing, and maintain quality through rigorous proofreading and fact-checking. Build, schedule, test, and deploy newsletters in Sailthru while managing templates, segmentation, and list hygiene. Run A/B tests on subject lines and send times, then track open rates, CTR, and subscriber growth to drive editorial decisions. Help develop and launch new newsletter concepts, collaborating with reporters, the audience team, and UK colleagues to coordinate workflows.
Required Qualifications
- Substantial experience as a journalist or editor at a national news organisation or major digital publisher
- Outstanding news judgment and a strong instinct for what a mass audience will read
- Exceptional writing, editing, headline and proofreading skills
- Proven ability to work accurately and calmly to tight, repeated deadlines
- Comfort with audience and performance data, and a willingness to act on it
- Confidence with digital publishing tools, and the aptitude to master an enterprise email platform quickly
- Strong organizational, communication and diplomacy/stakeholder-management skills
- Passion for the Daily Mail brand, its editorial voice and global audience
Desired Qualifications
- Experience producing or editing editorial newsletters
- Hands-on use of Sailthru, Braze, Iterable, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Campaign Monitor or Adobe Campaign
- Experience launching or relaunching a newsletter product
- Knowledge of email best practice, deliverability and audience segmentation
- Understanding of A/B testing methodology
- Familiarity with Google Analytics, Parse.ly, Chartbeat or similar
- Experience of subscription and audience-acquisition strategy
