Job Summary
Senior Naval Architect – Submarine Structures: lead naval architecture work for submarine structures, act as Technical Lead and Technical Assurer on specified projects, and serve as Project Manager as needed. Provide expert design opinion on submarine pressure hulls and related structures, and lead calculations for new builds or refits. Collaborate with shipyards, dockyards, Owners, Class societies, OEMs, and stakeholders to conduct surveys, design changes, mid-life upgrades, and vessel-condition documentation. Ensure compliance with IMO regulations, Class Society rules, and Transport Canada regulations; maintain ongoing CPD to sustain technical knowledge. Work with Capability Manager to identify SQEP requirements and developmental opportunities. Requires a Degree in Marine Engineering or Naval Architecture, a minimum of 15 years of naval architecture experience, eligibility for professional engineering governance, and Canadian/international security clearance; willing to travel internationally and deploy for multi-month assignments. Desirable experience includes hydrostatics, stability, inclining experiments, in-service support of naval systems, and development/use of technical studies and drawings.
Required Qualifications
- Degree in Marine Engineering or Naval Architecture
- Minimum 15 years of experience in Naval Architecture
- Registration with Professional Engineering governance body in Province of work or eligibility
- Eligible for Canadian and International security clearance
- Passport and ability to travel internationally for deployments
- Desirable: hydrostatics, stability, inclining experiments, in-service support, technical studies/drawings, government/vessel specifications
- Experience with shipyards, dockyards, Owners, Class and OEMs for surveys and engineering changes
