Job Summary
Senior Software Engineer specializing in multiplayer backend for an online mobile MMO. Responsibilities include creating and maintaining high-volume C++ game server systems to sync player state securely and scalably, developing high-volume Golang backend services, monitoring and diagnosing live environments, improving backend architecture and development workflows to optimize player experience, guiding future multiplayer technology and systems design, and collaborating with game client teams to support network communication. Candidate should have experience with UDP, bit-level serialization, delta compression, and integrating with external backend services, and be proficient in creating tests (unit, stress, integration) and debugging in networked Linux environments. Bonus points for experience with AWS/GCP, Kubernetes, Helm, Docker, bare metal deployment, diverse databases (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis), and Golang or Erlang functional programming.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years experience backend for MMO or high-volume, low-latency web services
- Fluent in C++
- Comfortable working with game client teams to support network communication
- Experience with UDP, bit-level serialization, delta compression, and other techniques for developing efficient network code for real time games
- Comfortable integrating with external backend services via various protocols
- Strong opinions on networking approaches to managing network communication, resource scaling, automated deployment, security, reliability, and data tracking/analysis
- Familiar with creating unit tests, stress tests, and integration tests
- Proficient debugging in network environments
- Proficient in Linux
