Job Summary
Conduct chemical analysis on adhesives, polymers, tapes, composites, and metals to assess material conformance or perform root cause failure analysis. Execute thermal analysis and instrumental characterization using techniques such as DSC, DMA, TGA, FTIR, and chromatography to solve engineering problems within days or weeks. Collaborate with multi-discipline teams, engineers, and suppliers to manage simultaneous tasks while troubleshooting analytical instruments and writing technical reports. Requires onsite work in the Materials Engineering Laboratory in Tucson, AZ, with a Secret security clearance and ability to lift 22 lbs.
Required Qualifications
- Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance
- U.S. citizenship
- Ability to obtain INTERIM U.S. government issued security clearance
- University Degree or equivalent experience
- Minimum 5 years prior relevant experience
- Advanced Degree in a related field
- Minimum 3 years experience
- Experience in Thermal Analysis and Characterization Techniques (ie: DSC, DMA, TGA, CTE, TC)
- Experience in Analytical Chemistry and Instrumental Analysis including Infrared Spectroscopy and Chromatography (ie: FTIR, GCMS, HPLC, GPC, etc.)
- Ability to lift 22 lbs
- Current/Active DoD clearance or SSBI
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Material Science and Polymer Science
- Understanding, with knowledge of material testing/analysis such as hardness, adhesion tests, sample preparation, cross section, etc.
- Understanding of material safety datasheets and Military Specifications
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from different backgrounds
- Demonstrated ability to lead and complete large scale multi-disciplined scientific based projects including failure analysis investigations
- Ability to write concise technical reports summarizing analyses
- Able to troubleshoot analytical instrument problems, perform analysis and interpret data
- Good communication, interpersonal, planning, teaming and time management skills
- Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
