Job Summary
Senior Mission Operations Engineer responsible for planning and executing ground and spacecraft operations within the Mission Operations team. Take ownership of high-impact initiatives, lead pre-flight testing and checkouts of ground systems, oversee operations for vehicle commissioning and on-orbit activities, analyze vehicle and ground telemetry, and develop workflows to improve mission systems and ground processes. Mentors junior engineers, collaborates with Mission Systems and Ground Software Engineering teams, and supports 24/7 critical mission milestones. Requires cross-functional collaboration across engineering disciplines, strong technical leadership, and the ability to operate under high-stress conditions. Travel up to 20% and full-time on-site in Long Beach, CA. Preferred qualifications include experience in human spaceflight mission operations, a Master’s degree, and hands-on experience in spacecraft design/build/test, plus software skills (C++, Golang, Javascript, React) and MATLAB/Python proficiency.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in aerospace, mechanical, software engineering, or other engineering discipline
- 5+ years of experience in the operation of complex systems
- Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally with other engineering disciplines
- Demonstrated ability to critically think in high stress environments and rapidly evolving situations
- Ability to disseminate critical engineering & technical information effectively and clearly
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong demonstrated technical leadership ability
- Willing to support 24/7 operations during mission critical phases
