Job Summary
Senior Mission Design Engineer leads the design and optimization of in-space servicing missions, collaborating with Mission Management, Engineering, and Business Development to shape mission concepts, craft proposals, and ensure technically robust solutions. Responsibilities include designing mission concepts to meet customer objectives, staying current on product capabilities, building analysis/visualization tools, integrating mission design into written proposals, meeting with customers to capture requirements, evaluating concepts for performance, advancing spacecraft simulation/trajectory optimization tools with Engineering, and driving tasks such as CONOPS development, maneuver planning, propellant and power budgeting, link-budget analysis, and CAD fit checks; requires Bachelor’s degree, 4+ years in a technical engineering role, Python proficiency, and knowledge of orbital mechanics and spacecraft operations. Preferred candidates may have a Master’s degree, TS/SCI clearance, customer-facing experience, hands-on spacecraft assembly/integration experience, CAD/tool experience, and startup-environment adaptability.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical field
- 4+ years in a technical engineering role
- Strong ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and professionally
- Working knowledge of orbital mechanics and spacecraft operations
- Functional understanding of spacecraft systems and payload accommodations
- Proficiency in at least one programming language (Python preferred)
