Job Summary
Senior Microbiologist leading microbiology programs for Rich Products, including microbial shelf life studies, risk assessment, and method development; manages internal/external lab networks, ensures regulatory compliance and safe product quality; utilizes advanced molecular tools (PCR, PFGE, MLST, WGS) and platforms (Illumina, BioLog); mentors staff and interns, collaborates with QA, procurement, and supply chain; stationed in Buffalo, NY with up to 25% travel; works with LIMS and cross-functional teams to validate testing methodologies and support product development.
Required Qualifications
- BS in Microbiology, Food Science, or related field with 6+ years of experience; OR MS in related discipline with 4+ years of experience
- Hands-on experience with challenge studies, shelf life testing and microbial method development
- Proficient in advanced microbiological tools (PCR, WGS, rapid methods)
- Experience with regulatory requirements (FDA, USDA, ISO, AOAC)
- Laboratory management experience
- Strong communication and ability to translate complex concepts to stakeholders
- Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365, SAP, Linux, and basic coding
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in varied environments
