Job Summary
Prepare, maintain status of, and review bid documents while submitting estimates in a timely manner. Generate complete quantity take-offs to build accurate estimates and cultivate existing client relationships for new opportunities. Assist with execution plans, win strategies, and subcontractor solicitation during the preconstruction process. Participate in peer bid reviews, contract compliance checks, and weekly estimating meetings to update project status. Provide design-assist input in design and OAC meetings, and support the project manager with estimate-related questions throughout the project lifecycle.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture or Construction Management
- 5-7 years' experience with estimating, design management and/or field management
- Experience in a Mechanical (HVAC/Plumbing) and/or Electrical Preconstruction capacity with a MEP Contractor or General Contractor
- Preference is experience across all MEP trades
- In-depth knowledge of construction principles/practices
- Proven experience estimating mechanical (including plumbing/process) systems and complex electrical and low voltage systems
- Experience dealing with subcontracts, subcontractors and/or self-perform work
- Self-starter, highly motivated with the ability to build trust and influence others
- Demonstrate behaviors consistent with McCarthy core values while maintaining a 'value added' approach to preconstruction
- Strong communication skills with ability to communicate with varied audiences
- Ability to perform mechanical quantity take-off based on OPRs, BODs, SLDs, architectural floor plans (sometimes without mechanical drawings)
- Understand main differentiators among various mechanical and electrical systems and solutions
- Must be able to relocate to a geographic area where McCarthy has an office
