Job Summary
Provide mental health counseling, crisis intervention, and outreach to individuals, couples, and groups while independently assessing clients and managing high-risk situations. Deliver workshops and consultations to students, faculty, and staff, and supervise clinical trainees through case reviews and recorded session analysis. Collaborate with partner campus offices to foster student well-being, requiring flexible evening and weekend availability for outreach and crisis response. Handle Personally Identifiable and Protected Health Information in compliance with FERPA and HIPAA regulations.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, or other degree acceptable to the Texas State Board of Examiners for Professional Counselors, Social Workers, or Marriage and Family Therapists
- Five years full-time equivalent, independent licensure experience in college or university counseling center or other relevant setting
- Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
- Licensed in the State of Texas within one year of employment
- Must maintain licensure for continued employment
- Eligible to Supervisor in accordance with Texas licensing board
- Ability to work as a generalist who serves all student presenting concerns
- Demonstrated experience working with individuals that are representative of our TAMU counseling center clients
- Training in evidence-based practices and/or related areas of specialization
- Ability to assess for crisis stabilization concerns and hospitalize when appropriate
- Ability to multitask and work cooperatively in a multidisciplinary team environment
- Ability to work autonomously from an off-site office while maintaining close relationships with UHS and the partner administrative team
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Adherence to the Ethical Principles and Code of Conduct for the relevant Texas State Licensing Board, the code of ethics relevant to their field, and all relevant federal and state laws
- Some travel is required
- Flexible schedule for evening and weekend work for outreach and/or crisis response
- Ability to comfortably handle most crises and possibly hospitalizations independently
- Unplanned flexibility to meet the needs of the student population when crises run late beyond 5 pm
- Ability to handle Personally Identifiable Information (PII) in accordance with University Health Services, Texas A&M University System policies, and all applicable federal regulations
- Ability to handle Protected Health Information (PHI) in accordance with University Health Services, Texas A&M University System policies, and all applicable federal regulations
- FERPA and HIPAA training completed upon employment and on a recurring basis
Desired Qualifications
- Experience working in an off-site counseling office in a higher education setting
- Experience working independently in a private practice
- 7 or more years of experience in a University or College counseling center or other closely related setting
- Experience with crisis intervention and risk assessment
- Experience in providing outreach and mental health education
- Experience supervising clinical trainees or licensed associate clinicians
- Ability to provide clinical counseling in more than one language utilized by A&M students
