Job Summary
Senior Medical Laboratory Scientist role in Hematology at Ochsner Health. Key duties include performing routine and special laboratory tests, coordinating the implementation of new procedures, resolving day-to-day lab technical issues, and assuming supervisory responsibilities within the section to ensure reliable patient testing and timely services. Responsibilities also include coordinating laboratory operations, monitoring Quality Improvement/Quality Control activities, maintaining adherence to accrediting/regulatory standards, and safeguarding patient information. Must demonstrate proficiency in data entry and utilization of Windows-based software, communicate effectively, collaborate with the supervisor/director, maintain competency, adapt to the patient population, and comply with regulatory requirements. Education and certifications required include a Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or related field, 4 years of clinical lab experience (with a portion in the appropriate section), and licensure/certification such as ASCP/AMT/AAB with Certification Maintenance Program to meet ongoing requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in medical technology, medical laboratory science, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, physical or biological science
- 4 years experience in appropriate clinical lab with at least 1 year in the appropriate section
- Licensure in state of practice (if applicable)
- ASCP, AMT or AAB certification as Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist
- Completion of ASCP Certification Maintenance Program for incumbents certified after Jan 1, 2004
