Job Summary
Senior Medical Director, Hematology Clinical Development at AbbVie oversees direction, planning, execution, and interpretation of clinical trials within one or more clinical development programs. Responsibilities include design/implementation of development programs, oversight of study enrollment and timelines, assessment and reporting of serious adverse events, and preparation of regulatory documents. Provides in-house clinical expertise for the molecule and disease area, collaborates with discovery, medical affairs, and cross-functional teams, may chair Clinical Strategy Teams, and participates in due diligence or business development activities. Requires MD/DO or equivalent with relevant specialty, residency preferred, subspecialty fellowship desirable, and at least 2 years of clinical trial experience; strong leadership, communication, and regulatory knowledge are essential.
Required Qualifications
- Medical Doctor (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.) or non-US equivalent of M.D. degree with relevant therapeutic specialty
- Completion of a residency program strongly preferred
- Completion of a subspecialty fellowship desirable
- At least 2 years of clinical trial experience in the pharmaceutical industry, academia, or equivalent
- Ability to run a clinical research program of moderate complexity with minimal supervision
- Ability to lead and develop others on a cross-functional global team
- Ability to interact with external and internal stakeholders to support global scientific and business strategy
- Knowledge of clinical trial methodology, regulatory and compliance requirements governing clinical trials and experience in development of clinical strategy and study protocols
- Excellent oral and written English communication skills
- Experience with regulatory discussions and regulatory submissions
- Understanding of Good Clinical Practices and pharmacovigilance standards
- Experience in translational strategies and strategic planning in drug development
