Job Summary
Senior Medical Assistant Certified (Sr. MA) in Rheumatology at Houston Methodist Sugar Land is responsible for expert medical assistant tasks under the supervision of a Physician or RN, supporting patient care, assisting with examinations, procedures, diagnostics, and dressing changes, and performing administrative duties. The role includes acting as a preceptor and clinical resource, scheduling appointments, ensuring medical necessity compliance, verifying eligibility for care, and maintaining compliance with CLIA, HIPAA, NCQA and government standards. The Sr. MA participates in patient care under physician direction, supports EMR use and quality assurance, collaborates with the interprofessional health care team, and may require training others and providing structured feedback. The position emphasizes high-quality patient care, safety, proficiency with computer systems, and continuous professional development. The role is non-exempt, full-time, and affiliated with Houston Methodist Specialty Physician Group in the Sugar Land area.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Five years medical assistant experience with highly complex, chronic disease management or in a specialty discipline
- Certified Medical Assistant through AAMA, NAHP, NCCT, NHA or Registered Medical Assistant or EMT and BLS (American Heart Association)
- Demonstrates communication and computer skills
- Ability to perform clinical tasks and assist with examinations, diagnostic and treatment procedures
- Proficient in EMR documentation and clinic workflow
- Ability to train/orient others as appropriate
- Understanding of CLIA, HIPAA, NCQA and government standards
