Job Summary

Design complex modifications of aircraft mechanical systems, including air conditioning, ventilation, smoke detection, and cooling, ensuring fit, form, and function meet FAA regulations and customer requirements. Create system schematics and architecture while selecting materials based on structural needs and orchestrating testing. Analyze project specifications and collaborate with Manufacturing Engineers to optimize designs for reduced parts counts and assembly errors. Provide design guidance, mentorship, and liaison engineering support to the team. Prepare for aircraft testing by developing test plans and reports. Maintain state-of-the-art knowledge in design practices and independently solve problems requiring creativity. Adhere to strict budget and project schedules while working full shifts with regular attendance.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering
  • minimum of 8 years relevant experience
  • Aviation background
  • aircraft interior experience
  • US Person status (US Citizen, Permanent Resident not working for foreign entity, or political asylee)
  • Strong Computer Aided Drafting/Design skills
  • 3D CAD skills (Inventor preferred)
  • 2D CAD skills (AutoCAD)
  • Familiarity with industry standard practices, fasteners, materials, and component parts
  • Ability to search and specify new supplier parts
  • Understanding of manufacturing methodologies, design-for-manufacturing and assembly, costing, and material selection
  • Strong knowledge of industry design, documentation, and drafting (ANSI Y14.5) standards
  • Ability to check engineering drawings for Fit, Form and Function
  • Ability to meet high expectations for meeting strict schedule, budget and technical solutions with minimal margin of error
  • Ability to adapt to tailored processes designed for prototype engineering (vs. production engineering)
  • Broad and diverse knowledge of multiple mechanical disciplines
  • Hydraulic knowledge: Potable Water, Waste Water, Coolant Systems
  • Pneumatic knowledge: Air Conditioning, Ventilation, Vacuum Waste Systems
  • Safety knowledge: Smoke Detection, Oxygen, Equipment Cooling Systems
  • Ability to work independently and cross-functionally as part of an established and growing team
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time
  • Ability to use hands to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Close/color vision ability to adjust focus
  • Ability to travel as required
  • Ability to work outside of core business hours as required
  • Maintain regular attendance including being at work, being on time to work and working full shifts
