Job Summary
Design complex modifications of mechanical systems installations and system schematics for aircraft modifications, including air conditioning, ventilation, smoke detection, and cooling systems. Analyze project specifications, select materials based on structural needs, and optimize designs for reduced parts counts and manufacturing costs while ensuring compliance with FAA regulations and customer criteria. Provide design guidance and mentorship to engineering personnel, support aircraft testing preparation, and maintain state-of-the-art knowledge in mechanical systems design practices.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering
- minimum of 8 years relevant experience
- Aviation background
- aircraft interior experience
- US Person status (US Citizen, Permanent Resident not working for foreign entity, or political asylee)
- Strong Computer Aided Drafting/Design skills
- 3D CAD skills (Inventor preferred)
- 2D CAD skills (AutoCAD)
- Familiarity with industry standard practices, fasteners, materials, and component parts
- Ability to search and specify new supplier parts
- Understanding of manufacturing methodologies, design-for-manufacturing and assembly, costing, and material selection
- Strong knowledge of industry design, documentation, and drafting (ANSI Y14.5) standards
- Ability to check engineering drawings for Fit, Form and Function
- Ability to meet high expectations for meeting strict schedule, budget and technical solutions with minimal margin of error
- Ability to adapt to tailored processes designed for prototype engineering (vs. production engineering)
- Broad and diverse knowledge of multiple mechanical disciplines
- Hydraulic knowledge: Potable Water, Waste Water, Coolant Systems
- Pneumatic knowledge: Air Conditioning, Ventilation, Vacuum Waste Systems
- Safety knowledge: Smoke Detection, Oxygen, Equipment Cooling Systems
- Ability to work independently and cross-functionally as part of an established and growing team
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time
- Ability to use hands to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds
- Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
- Close/color vision ability to adjust focus
- Ability to travel as required
- Ability to work outside of core business hours as required
- Maintain regular attendance including being at work, being on time to work and working full shifts
