Job Summary
Senior Mechanical Fire Protection Engineer responsible for preparing design and procurement documents for fire protection systems on the Sentinel project, leading technical deliverables such as calculations, construction drawings, FP Design Analysis Reports (FPDAR), and tailored UFGS specifications. Will review subcontractors’ submittals, support code interpretations and site testing, and coordinate with internal/external stakeholders including DoD and AHJ. Requires deep knowledge of NFPA, UFCs, and FM/UL standards, PE licensure, DoD project experience, and ability to travel to project sites ~1 week per month. US citizenship and ability to obtain/maintain security clearance are required.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering (or related)
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional work experience (Level 1) or minimum of 8 years (Level 2)
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Ability to complete pre-employment drug screen and background check
- Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills
- Knowledge of fire, life safety, and building codes (NFPA, UL, FM standards)
- Registered Fire Protection PE who has passed the NCEES fire protection engineering written examination
- Willingness to travel to project jobsites ~1 week per month
- Active security clearance or ability to obtain a security clearance
- Experience as a Fire Protection Engineer on major commercial, industrial, or nuclear facilities with fire suppression and fire alarm system design
- Experience with DoD government projects and Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC)
- Experience using SpecsIntact to tailor UFGS
- Ability to interface with DoD/regulatory agencies and AHJ
- Strong problem-solving and teamwork skills
- Proven ability to develop design calculations, construction drawings, FPDAR, UFGS specifications
- Ability to support design reviews, installation, commissioning, and site walkdowns
- Ability to interpret codes and standards and provide exemptions/equivalencies
