Job Summary
Prepare conceptual and detailed cost models for mechanical trades (HVAC, plumbing, piping, fire protection) from minimal design information through bid documents. Solicit, analyze, and recommend award decisions for subcontractor proposals while reviewing basis of design to ensure biddable, constructible, and cost-effective scopes. Coordinate with the project estimating team, VP of Estimating, and preconstruction executives to assign responsibilities, manage project kick-offs, and mitigate risks. Evaluate bids, conduct post-bid interviews, and prepare instructions to bidders to avoid change orders. Present estimated costs, risks, and opportunities to management and clients during proposal reviews and final estimate approvals.
Required Qualifications
- Applicants must be eligible to work to the U.S. without visa sponsorship or transfers now or in the future
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, (Construction Management, Mechanical) or technical training
- Minimum twelve (12) to fifteen (15) years of experience in Mechanical Trades estimating with major mechanical contractors (commercial or institutional, i.e. not residential)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of QuoteSoft (or similar) and Microsoft Office
- Working knowledge of mechanical trades installation, estimating and cost control techniques
- Capable of reading schematics and blueprints
Desired Qualifications
- Passion to continuously learn about new technologies impacting the mechanical industry and associated cost
- OSHPD/HCAI experience
- Design/Build experience
- DBIA Associate or Professional certification
- LEED certification
- Experience in BMS Controls systems
- Experience as an HVAC/Plumbing designer
