Job Summary
Senior Mechanical Engineer leads the design, coordination, and delivery of complex building HVAC and thermal energy systems across all project phases. Provides technical leadership, mentorship, and quality oversight to mechanical design teams; designs and coordinates thermal energy generation and distribution systems (hot water, steam, chilled water, geothermal wellfields, water-source and air-source heat pumps); performs engineering calculations to determine HVAC loads using IESVE or similar tools; designs HVAC systems including air handling, energy recovery, precision temperature/humidity control, and radiant heating/cooling; develops building automation and control strategies to support performance, efficiency, and occupant comfort; prepares mechanical master plans and supports long-term infrastructure planning; supports sustainable design initiatives and certification efforts including LEED, LBC, PHIUS, and WELL; collaborates with architects, owners, utilities, and contractors to resolve technical challenges; participates in client meetings and interdisciplinary coordination; location options include Boston, Laconia, and Portland with hybrid work arrangement; travel up to 20%.
Required Qualifications
- BSME or equivalent
- 10+ years of experience designing and leading HVAC design teams for building systems
- Proficiency with IESVE or similar load calculation software
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with client-facing experience
