Job Summary
Design electro-mechanical equipment systems from initial concept through production launch using SolidWorks, integrating multiple subsystems and generating FEA analysis studies. Create and analyze engineering drawings for parts and assemblies in compliance with ASME 14.100 and MIL-STD-31000 standards while maintaining updated Bills of Material. Troubleshoot product development challenges, perform root cause analysis, and collaborate with manufacturing vendors and suppliers to solve production problems. Assist in production problem solving by interfacing with the manufacturing team and support testing efforts. Maintain and update technical documentation and offer design improvements. This onsite role requires a 4-year degree with 10+ years of experience or a technical college degree with 15+ years of experience, including security clearance eligibility.
Required Qualifications
- 4-year Mechanical Engineering degree with 10+ years of hands-on experience
- 2-year technical college degree/military experience with 15+ years of mechanical and design/drawing experience
- Experience designing mechanical systems and power generation and distribution systems, particularly medium and low voltage switchgear distribution systems
- Electrical/engine-driven systems integration
- Knowledge of engineering drawing practices IAW ASME Y14 – including Y14.5, Y14.100
- Sheet Metal/Structural fabrication and weldments
- Enclosure Design with thermal analysis
- SolidWorks and 2D CAD, and the ability to read and interpret electrical schematics are mandatory
- Experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, problem solving abilities
- Must be eligible to receive U.S. Security Clearance
- Must have ability and some flexibility to travel domestically and internationally - up to 20%
- This is not a remote or hybrid position
- This position is onsite at our Springfield, VA office
