Job Summary
Design enclosures and mechanisms for long-range surveillance cameras using Solidworks, translating 3D models into production-quality fabrication and assembly drawings. Collaborate with internal machine shops and suppliers to produce supporting documentation, estimate workloads, and create test fixtures for mechanical verification. Conduct prototype testing, report findings, and drive design improvements through the Engineering Change Request process while ensuring all outputs meet MIL STD and harsh environment specifications.
Required Qualifications
- Ability to work in a hybrid arrangement (office located in Ware)
- Self-motivated
- Confidence to reach out when support is required
- Collaborate with various stakeholders within and external to the engineering department
- Design enclosures and mechanisms, fit for harsh environments, including (but not limited to) -40°C, marine conditions, and MIL STD
- CAD experience in Solidworks (3D modelling, 2D technical drawings, BoM production)
- Knowledge of material properties, manufacturing techniques, plating methods, coatings and fasteners
- Ability to travel between Ware (main office) and Sandy (machine shop) on short notice
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to produce clear, concise documentation
- A demonstrated pragmatic approach to problem solving
- Ability to design for manufacture and assembly
- Ability to implement designs that are ergonomic and aesthetically pleasing
- Familiarity with IP ratings and methods of achieving IP67
- Ability to justify design decisions with calculations, analysis and written documentation
- Experience in FEA and thermal simulation
Desired Qualifications
- Ability to design and carry out relevant tests to help achieve high product quality
- Experience in FEA and thermal simulation would be advantageous
