Job Summary
Lead mechanical design and development of complex medical devices (Versius robotic system) from concept through verification and transfer to manufacture. Design parts and assemblies in SolidWorks; develop practical, manufacturable solutions for machining, sheet metal, and injection moulding; build and test prototypes and fixtures; create and review mechanical drawings and documentation; perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions; collaborate with cross-functional teams (systems, software, electronics, manufacturing, quality); mentor junior engineers; contribute to tooling, processes, and standards; role is hybrid with minimum three days per week in the Cambridge office.
Required Qualifications
- A relevant academic background in Mechanical Engineering or a similar discipline
- Proven experience in the design and development of mechanical products that have been successfully released into manufacture
- Strong SolidWorks design skills, including surface and solid modelling techniques
- Experience designing parts and creating drawings for machining, sheet metal, and injection moulding
- Strong analytical skills and ability to perform mechanical engineering design calculations
- Experience planning and delivering complex technical work with ownership and accountability
- Ability to make sound engineering decisions balancing multiple factors
- Experience authoring technical documentation such as test reports and design reviews
- Significant experience creating, updating, reviewing and interpreting mechanical drawings
- Ability to troubleshoot product issues and identify root causes
- Desirable: experience in regulated development environments (medical devices ISO 13485 and/or IEC 60601)
- Desirable: experience transfer-to-manufacture for low-volume production
- Understanding of BS 8888 and GD&T
