Job Summary
Prepare or review modification packages, functional mechanical drawings, and engineering analyses for operating nuclear power plants. Evaluate technical specifications, procurement documents, and vendor bids, while conducting studies and options evaluations for plant system modifications. Develop engineering cost estimates for client-requested scopes and lead engineering project teams. Interface with clients at office or plant sites to present engineering status and tasks. Drive the adoption of modern tools, automation, and AI to improve workflows, reduce rework, and deliver cost-effective designs by directing teams in scripting and reviewing automated outputs.
Required Qualifications
- BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering from an ABET accredited program
- 5 or more years of experience in the nuclear power industry
- Working knowledge of codes, standards, and regulations that apply to mechanical engineering design of power plants
- In-office work 3 days per week at the Sargent & Lundy office in Peachtree Corners, GA
Desired Qualifications
- PE license
- Experience leading engineering project teams
- Experience leading others in taking engineering problems from issue to solution by setting expectations for using data and modern tools such as automation and AI
- Experience directing automation and process-improvement work
- Experience overseeing engineers who program or script (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate engineering tasks
- Experience reviewing automated outputs
- A minor, certificate, or other experience in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields
