Job Summary
Investigate, troubleshoot, and solve electrical controls engineering issues for operating nuclear power plants, including modification packages, functional drawings, engineering analyses, and vendor bid evaluations. Lead engineering project teams and develop cost estimates for client-requested work scopes. Interface with clients at office and plant site locations to present engineering task status. Work three days a week on-site at the Fermi Nuclear Generating Station in Newport, MI, with two days remote. This role supports the Nuclear Power Group's mission to drive clean, carbon-free energy through design, modification, and analysis of instrumentation and control systems at the Fermi 2 power plant.
Required Qualifications
- BS or MS in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering from an ABET accredited program with academic coursework in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfers
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in the power industry
- Working knowledge of codes, standards, and regulations that apply to mechanical engineering design of nuclear power plants
- Must be able to work at the Fermi Nuclear Generating Station in Newport, MI, supporting project needs with a hybrid work arrangement
- Must be willing or able to lead others who use modern tools
- Must be expected to lead others in taking engineering problems from issue to solution by setting expectations for using data and modern tools such as automation and AI to improve workflows, reduce rework, and deliver cost-effective designs
- Must be expected to direct automation and process-improvement work, for example, how teams automate calculations, summarize technical documents, or generate design documentation and guiding when and how AI or agentic AI tools are used while ensuring results are checked
- Must be able to oversee engineers who program or script (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate engineering tasks, with review of automated outputs

- Minor, certificate, or other experience in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields that enables effective oversight of automation and agentic AI-enabled engineering workflows
