Job Summary
Senior Manufacturing/Controls Engineer leading electrical and controls engineering for the Medtronic North Haven Manufacturing facility. Provides oversight for cost savings, manufacturing process improvements, assembly equipment retrofits, and procurement/implementation of new manufacturing equipment. Collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure equipment meets EHS requirements and product specifications, develops and maintains engineering standards, supports validation activities with IQ protocols, and ensures all equipment documentation (operating instructions, electrical schematics, specifications, parameter settings, software backups) is created and maintained. Develops equipment specifications for automated and manual manufacturing equipment; ensures designs comply with NFPA and OSHA; reviews supplier quotations and leads equipment design reviews; contributes to DFMEA, PFMEA, machine risk assessments, and CTQ processes; troubleshoots equipment with PLCs, CNCs, PCs, vision systems, and robotics; ensures production requirements through proper specifications, supplier selection, and equipment qualification; contributes to new automation technologies and process improvements; coordinates with cross-functional teams; travel ~25% to manufacturing sites and supplier locations; provides technical support to maintenance teams; supports a fast-paced production environment. For U.S. work authorization sponsorship, it is offered exclusively for Principal-level roles and above; this role requires unrestricted U.S. work authorization at hire and duration of employment. The position is onsite with a minimum of 5 days/week onsite.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum Baccalaureate degree and minimum of 4 years of relevant experience OR Master’s degree with minimum of 2 years relevant experience OR PhD with 0 years relevant experience
- Strong electrical and controls design experience with emphasis on NFPA compliance
- Experience with Rockwell PLC and Safety PLC platforms (SLC, CompactLogix, and ControlLogix) and associated development software
- Experience with Rockwell HMI systems and related development tools
- Experience programming and integrating 6-axis articulated robots and SCARA robots
- Experience with machine vision systems (Cognex or Adept preferred)
- Familiarity with data acquisition systems, IoT trends in manufacturing, and industrial network architectures is a plus
- Ability to travel ~25% domestically and internationally
