Job Summary
Lead the mechanical design, development, and execution of subsea ROV components and systems, focusing on underwater vehicle design from concept through deployment. Responsibilities include developing detailed 3D CAD models and engineering drawings, selecting suitable materials and coatings for subsea environments, ensuring designs meet industry standards (ABS preferred), collaborating with electrical/electro-mechanical, systems/controls, and manufacturing teams for system integration, planning and leading testing programs (FAT and subsea trials), overseeing prototype fabrication and assembly, performing analyses (structural, fatigue, thermal; FEA), and supporting offshore operations and troubleshooting. Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in engineering, 5+ years of relevant experience (8+ years in subsea/marine), proficiency in CAD/SolidWorks, knowledge of GD&T and design for manufacturability, familiarity with ABS standards, and willingness to travel up to 25%. Preferred: Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline, strong leadership and problem-solving skills, and experience with CFD/ANSYS; prior Navy-field experience and ABS classification familiarity are desirable.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in an applicable engineering field
- 5+ years applicable engineering experience
- 8+ years of relevant subsea/marine experience
- Experience with underwater vehicles or subsea systems design and development
- Proficiency in CAD/modeling software
- Proficiency in SolidWorks
- Strong background in engineering analysis tools, FEA
- Knowledge of subsea materials, coatings, and corrosion mitigation
- Familiarity with ABS standards and classification requirements
- Willingness to engage in hands-on testing and travel (up to 25%)
- Ability to plan, execute, and lead testing programs (FAT, subsea trials)
- Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Detail-oriented with commitment to quality, reliability, and safety
- Experience in manufacturing processes and design for manufacturability
- Ability to develop detailed 3D CAD models, drawings, and technical specifications
- Experience with structural, fatigue, and thermal evaluations
- Experience with CFD a plus
- Experience fielding systems for Navy is highly desirable
