Job Summary

Senior Managing Director for Energy and Environment at American Progress, serving as deputy to the Senior Vice President to lead key operations of the Energy and Environment Department. Develop and implement advocacy strategies, oversee policy research, budgets, events, fundraising, and stakeholder engagement. Manage a high-output team, mentor department leads, oversee multi-million-dollar budgets, coordinate with supporting teams, and represent the department to policymakers, media, academics, and NGO partners. Requires extensive policy or communications experience in climate/energy/environment, senior leadership experience, strong communication skills, fundraising capability, and established relationships with congressional staff and stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required
  • 10+ years of policy or communications experience in climate, conservation, environment, or energy
  • At least five years of experience managing high-output teams
  • Experience managing departmental budgets
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to prioritize and work well on a team
  • Commitment to organizational mission and goals
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required; master’s degree preferred
  • Strong relationships with congressional staff, NGOs and industry stakeholders is preferred
