Senior Manager, Scientific Communications

Job Summary

Develop and QC abstracts, posters, presentations, and manuscripts in collaboration with cross-functional teams and external partners. Draft and revise scientifically sound materials including slide decks, data visualizations, message platforms, narratives, FAQs, and lexicon documents for internal and external audiences. Manage Medical–Legal–Regulatory review of external documents and handle reactive Patient Advocacy and Medical Information enquiries with compliant, empathetic responses. Support planning and execution of scientific congress activities, including session coverage, data presentations, booth materials, and internal debrief summaries. Ensure publications adhere to Encoded's Publication Policies, GPP guidelines, and ICMJE recommendations. For candidates based in the SFBA area, the salary range is $170,000 - $190,000; outside SFBA, it is $150,000 to $170,000. This role requires a minimum of twelve years of related experience or equivalent qualifications.

Required Qualifications

  • A minimum of twelve years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree
  • Eight years and a Master's degree
  • PhD with three to five years of experience
  • Equivalent experience
  • Three to five years of medical writing, publications, or scientific communications experience within the biotechnology/pharmaceutical industry or a medical communications agency
  • Strong understanding of scientific publication processes, data communication, medical terminology, statistical methods, and compliance principles
  • Proven ability to draft clear, concise scientific content and translate technical data for diverse audiences
  • Excellent writing, editing, and project management skills with strong attention to detail
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple deliverables concurrently under standard supervision
  • Collaborative team player with strong interpersonal skills and comfort working across cross-functional teams
  • Ability to communicate complex scientific information empathetically with patient communities
  • Flexible, adaptable, and comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe presentation tools
  • Travel internationally & domestically as required

Desired Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (PhD, PharmD, or MD) in a life science field
  • Experience in gene therapy, epilepsy, neuroscience, or rare disease
  • Knowledge of digital and multimedia scientific communication formats
  • Comfort with graphic design and video editing tools
