Job Summary
Senior Manager, Platform Development leading a software-engineering team responsible for Crunchyroll’s core platform services, including login/authentication, identity, authorization, notifications, and AI runtimes. Own the roadmap and execution for Platform Development, decompose legacy account-auth/IAM into well-bounded services, and evolve the notification stack toward a unified orchestration layer. Collaborate with Data and Security teams to meet GDPR/DSAR and age-assurance requirements, define SLOs and incident response, ensure security and operability, and drive architecture and delivery excellence while hiring and developing a high-performing, inclusive team. Requires 10+ years of cloud-native backend/platform experience and 4+ years of engineering leadership; proficient in one or more backend languages (TypeScript, Go, Java, Python); SF Bay Area-based with hybrid work options.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience building and operating cloud-native backend or platform services at scale
- 4+ years of engineering management experience
- deep experience with at least one major cloud provider (preferably AWS) and modern architectures
- proficiency in backend languages such as TypeScript, Go, Java, or Python
- experience with authentication, identity, authorization, notifications, or similar consumer access domains
- comfort partnering on compliance and data protection topics (GDPR/DSAR, age assurance)
- ability to synthesize complex tradeoffs for technical and non-technical audiences
- ability to work with AI/ML production systems or willingness to partner with ML/AI teams
