Senior Manager, HV Engineering

Job Summary

Lead high voltage (HV) engineering for utility-scale PV and BESS projects from development through final completion, driving designs, managing RFPs and scopes of work, and overseeing EOR and EPC contractors. Provide technical oversight for substation, switchyard, SCADA, and generation tie-line packages by reviewing specifications, drawings, studies, and calculations while ensuring compliance with NESC, NFPA, NEC, and other standards. Manage civil, structural, and electrical deliverables, respond to technical RFIs, conduct constructability reviews, and support estimation and commissioning activities. Travel to active construction and development sites as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, required
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience as an HV engineer working with solar, BESS, or another related industry required
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, highly motivated and results oriented, process oriented with strong organizational and communication skills
  • Knowledge of engineering and renewable energy systems; solar PV & BESS systems including SCADA and monitoring systems
  • Knowledge of site power & design calculations, plan preparation; site collector system calculations & report writing
  • Understanding of project design and optimization tradeoffs and familiarity with current market, equipment suppliers, contractors, typical technical specifications, and costs
  • Experience and understanding of PV + BESS project HV design, optimization, suppliers, specifications and costs; including contracting approaches
  • Knowledgeable in NEC, NESC, IEC, IBC, NFPA standards related to solar, BESS and substation design
  • Demonstrated experience with high-voltage transmission and interconnection facilities (typically 69 kV through 500 kV), including substations, switchyards, collector systems, and generation tie-lines
  • Working knowledge of NERC Reliability Standards and FERC regulatory requirements as they relate to generator interconnections, bulk electric system assets, grid reliability, and utility-scale renewable energy projects
  • Experience supporting or reviewing utility interconnection studies, including short-circuit, protection and controls, stability, power quality, and voltage analyses
  • Familiarity with transmission owners, balancing authorities, regional transmission organizations (RTOs), and independent system operators (ISOs), and their technical requirements for project development and energization
  • Ability to interpret and apply utility, NERC, and FERC requirements during project design, commissioning, and operational readiness activities
  • Knowledgeable in physical substation design methods and their application
  • Knowledgeable in civil design methods and their applications for hydrology studies and SWPPP, preferred
  • Advanced computer skills in MS Office, MS Windows, BlueBeam, and project controls
  • Proficient or able to learn Aconex, SiteTracker

Desired Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, preferred
  • Electrical Professional Engineering Registration (PE) preferred
  • Electrical testing and field commissioning experience preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of AutoCAD design, ETAP or similar, CYMCAP or similar, WinIGS or similar, preferred
