Senior Manager Fixed Asset & Inventory Accounting

Job Summary

Oversee all activities related to the proper accounting and financial reporting of MTA Agencies' Fixed Assets and Inventory, including reviewing project status reports to ensure proper accounting treatment and capitalization. Manage the analysis and recording of monthly Fixed Assets and Inventory Transactions, as well as the review and journaling of Inventory accounting activity including reserves. Prepare and review account analysis, quarterly roll-forward, and disclosure reports, while selecting, developing, and motivating personnel within the department. Provide prompt coaching and counseling, review staff performance, and ensure compliance with all policies and standards. This role supports the MTA's mission to provide a safe and reliable commute for 15.3 million people across a 5,000-square-mile travel area.

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated supervisory and/or leadership abilities
  • Must know a general ledger system
  • Must know Microsoft Application/Excel
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work with all internal levels within a given organization
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact well with external agencies
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a high-profile, high-pressure environment effectively
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with key internal and/or external stakeholders
  • Must have strong managerial skills to effectively direct a staff of professional and technical employees
  • Demonstrated ability to complete short- and long-term projects effectively and as efficiently as possible
  • Demonstrated analytical capabilities and quantitative skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or comparable applications, i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Bachelor's Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) in Accounting and/or finance or business-related field
  • Minimum 7 years of Accounting and/or Fixed Assets / Inventory Role
  • Must be able to work hours outside regular work hours, as applicable

Desired Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Arts/Sciences (MA/MS) or MBA
  • Minimum 3 years in a managerial and/or leadership role
  • Prior experience working in a large, multi-faceted, fast-paced organization or governmental body
  • Public Accounting or related experience
  • Experience working with contracts and purchase orders (financial compliance)
  • Experience in PeopleSoft or similar ERP system and lease accounting software
  • Familiarity with the MTA's policies and procedures
  • Familiarity with the MTA's collective bargaining procedures
